Bishop, Ga----The Lions of the Emmanuel College Cross Country teams traveled to Bishop, Georgia on Saturday September 3rd to compete in the UGA invitational. The meet was held at the Bulldogs' home course located on the UGA Equestrian Complex.
Freshmen Ethan Alexander who clocked a 27:25.23 and Rashaun Tanner who respectfully clocked a 27:47.67 led the Lions in the 8K race, while freshman Lindsey Taylor who registered a 22:23.36 was the leader for the Lady Lions in the 5k race.
"Today was a great day for our cross country program. Ethan, Rashaun and Lindsey led our young Lions in a really tough race filled with some very talented NCAA Div-I programs," shared Coach Larios. "Competitions like these will prepare us well for our SSAC teams in November. Many of our athletes are learning to race new distances, and some are getting back in the groove of racing. I think we're making great strides toward running well in November."
Rounding out the next three scorers for Emmanuel in the 8K race were freshmen Leonel Ayala (28:24.70), Josh Wheeler (28:36.76) and Carson Massey (28:40.42). The Lions finished 6th out of 11 teams, which is a huge accomplishment for the young team.
The Lady Lions' next four scorers were junior Jordana Schultz (22:33.66), sophomore Kim Hibbitt (22:40.68), freshman Emily Henry (22:45.20) and junior Andrea Langley (22:50.14). The Lady Lions finished 7th out of 8 teams.
Both the men and women will travel to Central, South Carolina on September 24th to compete in the NCCAA South Regional Cross Country Championships at the Southern Wesleyan University Campus.
