Carnesville, GA – The visiting Auburn University of Montgomery Warhawks defeated the Soccer Lions by the score of 4-1 in Southern States Athletic Conference action on Saturday evening.
AUM took advantage of a sluggish start from the Soccer Lions and had an early 3-0 lead going into half time. The Warhawks started the game strong, firing 12 shots on the Lions.
The second half saw a re-energized group of Soccer Lions as they pushed to get back into the game. Emmanuel were able to fire 13 shots in the second half, and score one goal. In the 61st minute, Ivan Garcia (Winder, GA) slotted a pass to a streaking Eddie Green (Birmingham, England) who fired a shot past the AUM goal tender. Unfortunately, AUM earned a penalty kick in the 74th minute and they converted on the shot to take the final score to 4-1.
"We started the game slow, and AUM were good… that will never result in a good outcome for us. I was extremely proud of our efforts in the second half. At this point in the season, we have faced four nationally ranked teams and have learned something new from each match. I trust these lessons will favor us in November when play-offs come around," commented Coach Scott Borchers.
The Soccer Lions will next travel to Mobile, Alabama to take on Southern States Athletic Conference opponents, University of Mobile (October 7 at 6 PM CST) and Spring Hill College (October 8 at 4 PM CST).
