Mobile, AL -- The Soccer Lions travelled to Mobile, Alabama for two SSAC contests the past weekend. The Lions lost 0-4 to (4) University of Mobile on Friday, October 7, and fell 1-2 to (RV) Spring Hill College on Saturday, October 8.
The #4 in the Nation UM Rams were too much for the Soccer Lions as they scored 3 goals in the first half of play to take the lead and never looked back after that. The Soccer Lions settled in a bit more in the second half, but the damage was done by the Rams and the three goal deficit was too much for the Lions to recover from. The Rams added an insurance goal in the form of a penalty kick in the second half, to take the final score to 0-4.
On Saturday, the SHC Badgers were able to outlast the Soccer Lions. The Badgers broke the stalemate in the 40th taking the score to 0-1 and it stayed that way until the halftime intermission. In the 52nd minute, Spring Hill were able to capitalize on a poor clearance from the Lions and score again to take the score to 0-2. The Soccer Lions continued to battle their way back into the game and in the 56th minute, Andres Mora (Mt. Airy, GA) was able to collect the ball inside the penalty box and smash a shot through traffic and score to take the score line to 1-2. Emmanuel battled for the remaining 30 minutes of the game looking for the equalizer, but were not able to find the back of the net.
Goalkeeper, Anel Lilic (Sarajevo, Bosnia) was one of the standout defenders for the Lions against Spring Hill, making 8 saves in 90 minutes of play.
"We played well against Spring Hill. We are putting ourselves in the right positions, just struggling to finish. Things are still coming together and we still have five very important games left to reach some of our goals," comments Coach Scott Borchers.
The Soccer Lions are back in action on Tuesday, October 11 when they will host SSAC opponent Lee University. Kickoff is slated for 2 PM.
