Carnesville, GA – The Soccer Lions dropped another close one to Lee University. The Flames escaped with a win by the score of 0-1, on a rainy day at Rocky Ford Park.
The start of the game saw two teams fighting to gain a strong hold on the game. The Lions created many scoring chances early in the first half from breakaways to solid combination play, but were unable to convert on any of their chances. The stalemate was broken in the 18th minute when Lee got on the board from a goal by Jaxon McClure. The Soccer Lions continued to put on the pressure in the first half, but were not able to tally the equalizer despite outshooting the Flames 11-8.
The second half saw an inspired effort for the Soccer Lions as they put a relentless attack onto the Flames. Despite their valiant effort in the second half, the Lions were unable to find the back of the net as Lee University did everything they could to preserve the victory.
Emmanuel tallied 19 shots, 11 on target, while Lee tallied 16 shots, 7 on target.
"We did everything we needed to do with the ball, but score. This is the third match in four tries that we have put together very strong performances, but the scoreboard does not reflect our efforts. We have will keep plugging away and make some tweaks here and there with the hopes that we will eventually reward our own efforts! Despite the result, we are continually getting better which is where I want us to be this time of year. When we regain our confidence in front of goal and find the back of the net, we will be in great shape. We have four important games left, and I hope we can find our rhythm and position ourselves for a play-off push," commented Coach Scott Borchers.
The Soccer Lions will next play host to SSAC foe Brewton-Parker College on October 18, kick-off is set for 2 PM.
