For the third year in a row, the Soccer Lions of Emmanuel College finished third place in the "Union College - Golden Corral Classic".  The Lions dropped their first contest to Cumberland University 0-2 on August 27, 2010. The match looked to be a repeat of the previous year and potentially going into overtime, with both teams even on possession and scoring opportunities.  At the 70th minute one of the Lions received his second Caution, shown a Red Card, and was sent off.  After the Lions went a man down, CU made a strong push and scored within minutes to take the lead 0-1. After the goal was scored the Lions continued pushing for an equalizer, but were not able to find the elusive goal. As the Lions were making their push, CU capitalized on the space available and in 82nd minute scored again to take the score line to 0-2.
"We did not respond well to the set-back of having a man sent off and playing with 10 men, and Cumberland capitalized. We learned a lot from this game and I hope the boys will respond well to this lesson," said Coach Borchers.

The EC Soccer Lions then faced the host college Union College in the Consolation match Saturday, August 28, 2010. After going down 0-1 to Union in the 8th minute by a goal from Chris Riley (UC) the boys did not lose their poise and battled themselves back into the match. The Soccer Lions were able to create many chances as the game progressed but were not able to score until; Andres Mora was able to find the back of the net in the 78th minute to level the score at 1-1. Mora shot from 25 yards beat the outstretched 6ft 7in goalkeeper, Jonathan Shaw, to find the inside of the far post and ping in. The Lions only continued to gain momentum after the equalizing goal, but could not find the game winner in regulation time. The score remained 1-1 until the end of regulation time.
As the first overtime began, the Lions continued their push and were able to score the game winning "Golden Goal" after just five minutes and end the game at 2-1.  Once again, Mora found the back of the net, this time he received a cross Jose Gaspar inside the 18yd box and was able to smash it home.
"I was very proud of the boys for the efforts today.  We showed a lot of character to come back from a goal down to win. It was great to get a result against such a good team (Union) as well.  We gained a lot of experience and learned a lot of lessons this weekend.  I look forward to seeing the team mature and gain confidence as the season continues," states Coach Borchers.

The Lions move to 1-2 on the season and will head to Jackson, Tennessee to play Union University and University Science & Arts of Oklahoma in the
