Mason, OH---The Emmanuel College baseball team's 7th inning rally fell just short in the opening game of the NCCAA World Series Wednesday afternoon in Ohio. The Lions trailed the Cedarville Yellowjackets 5-3 entering the 7th inning and the Lions quickly put two runners on base with a pair of singles.
After a Cedarville pitching change and walk the Lions had the bases loaded with no outs. A sacrifice fly ball pushed one run across to cut into the Yellowjacket's lead but that would be the end of the Lion's scoring. A double steal made things interesting to advance the tying run to third but a pair of strikeouts ended the rally and left the Lions just short with the 5-4 final score.
The Lions strung together a series of singles to score three runs in the 4th inning to climb back into the game after the #1 seeded Yellowjackets had built an early 4-run lead.
The Lions continue pool play today at the NCCAA World series meeting Southeastern (FL) at 10 am and then Nyack (NY) at 4 pm.
