Franklin Springs, GA – Men's Lacrosse Head Coach Patrick Johnston announced that Tanner Smith has signed a letter of intent to play men's lacrosse at Emmanuel College in 2012-2013. Tanner Smith is the son of Kenny and Kay Smith of Newnan, Georgia and he has one older brother, James. Smith, a midfielder, earned three varsity letters for the Newnan High School Cougars Lacrosse Team. He also played several seasons with the Georgia Copperheads recreational leagues where he also helped coach younger players. Smith played club lacrosse for the Georgia Copperheads' Vipers team and for the Copperheads' U19 National Team that competed in the NDP North American Club Championships.
Coach Johnston stated, "Tanner has a great personality on and off the field. On the field, he plays at the highest level all the time on both ends of the field. He plays solid defense and he pushes the ball in transition with his speed, but he also shows the patience, awareness, and field vision of a well-rounded offensive player. He'll not only bring us great depth in the midfield, but he'll add to overall team dynamics with his positive attitude and his character. I want to welcome Tanner and the Smith family to our Lions Lacrosse Family, and I can't wait to watch Tanner grow as a man of honor here at Emmanuel."
