FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga.---Emmanuel College will play host to the 2013 NCCAA South Region Men's Basketball tournament on March 7-9, 2013.
The tournament begins Thursday, March 7 at 1 p.m. as the #4 seed Southeastern University Fire tip off versus the #5 seed Pensacola Christian Eagles. The Fire is from the NAIA Sun Conference and posted a 15-16 record on the season. The Eagles play in the NCCAA and went 16-12 on the season winning six straight games to close the regular season. The Fire defeated the Eagles 63-54 in their regular season meeting in January.
At 3 p.m. the #1 seed Shorter University Hawks play the #8 seed Bob Jones University Bruins. The Hawks are from the NCAA D2 Gulf South Conference and finished with a 15-11 record during the season. The Bruins are completing their first season of play in the NCCAA and finished 6-23 on the season. The teams did not meet in the 2012-13 regular season.
At 5 p.m. the #3 seed Southern Wesleyan University Warriors play the #6 seed Carver College Cougars. The Warriors are from the NAIA Southern States Conference and posted a record of 15-14 on the season. The Cougars play in the NCCAA and went 0-19 during the regular season. The teams did not meet in the 2012-13 regular season.
Then at 7 p.m. the #2 seed Point University Skyhawks play the #7 seed Truett-McConnell College Bears. The Skyhawks are from the NAIA Appalachian Conference and posted a 19-9 mark on the season. The Bears are from the NAIA Southern States Conference and went 7-23 during the regular season. Point won the regular season meeting 85-78 in November.
The tournament semifinals will be held at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday with the finals on Saturday at 3 p.m.
All games will be held inside the six-month old Williamson Basketball Arena located at the new Emmanuel College Athletic center.
All NCCAA tournaments include a Christian service project and the Children's Rescue Initiative has been selected as this event's project. All the participating teams will be donating new or gently used blankets to be shared with this ongoing children's group. Meeting the physical needs of people wherever they are in life is one of the best ways to share the good news just like Christ did is His earthly ministry.
