BUDAPEST, HUNGARY - The 2017 FINA World Aquatics Championships are now underway, with preliminary diving and synchro action starting Friday and the first medals handed out Saturday in the Men's Open Water 5K.
Emmanuel men's swimming sophomore Alex Sobers (Bridgetown, Barbados) will represent his home country of Barbados in the 2017 World Championships (50 meters). Sobers competes in 2 events:
400 LCM freestyle on Sunday, July 23
200 LCM freestyle on Monday, July 24

This past August, Sobers represented his home country of Barbados in the 2016 Rio Olympics. The then, incoming freshmen competed in the men's 400m freestyle, finishing 44th overall in a time of 3:59.97. This past December, Sobers competed in the 2016 FINA World Championships (25 meters) in Windsor, Canada. Now Sobers is the first Emmanuel College athlete to compete in two World Championships.
