WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

BUDAPEST, HUNGARY - The 2017 FINA World Aquatics Championships are now complete. Emmanuel men's swimming sophomore Alex Sobers (Bridgetown, Barbados) represented his home country of Barbados in the 2017 World Championships (50 meters). This is Sobers 2nd trip to the World Championships.

 

Sobers competed in 2 events:

400 LCM freestyle on Sunday, July 23 in 4:00.50 for 44th place

200 LCM freestyle on Monday, July 24 in 1:52.50 for 56th place

 

Sobers owns the Barbados national record in the 400 LCM free, he just missed the national record in the 200 LCM free by 2 tenths of a second (Barbados national record is 1:52.30).

 

Head Swim Coach, Allen Gilchrest commented "This season Alex was the first EC athlete to become an Olympian (Rio 2016), the first EC athlete to compete in a World Championships (now competed in 2). To accomplish this at age 17 and 18 is amazing. We are so proud of Alex and we give God the Glory!" GO LIONS!
