SOBERS SETS NATIONAL RECORD

SOBERS SETS NATIONAL RECORD

Sophomore EC swimmer, Alex Sobers, had a great first swim on Friday at the 21st Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

Sobers competed in the 200 LCM freestyle, swimming a personal best 1:51.87. Sobers finished 20th overall, setting the Barbados national record. The previous record was 1:52.30 set by Bradley Ally in August 2007.

The Commonwealth Games have been conducted every four years (except for 1942 and 1946 due to World War II) since 1930. The Commonwealth Games have become a modern sporting spectacular that now includes 71 nations and over 6,000 athletes.

Next up, Sobers competes in the 100 LCM freestyle (Saturday, April 7), and the 50 LCM freestyle (Monday, April 9).
