Barranquilla, Colombia: July 19 – August 3, 2018. The 23rd edition of the Central American and Caribbean Games were held in Barranquilla, Colombia. Over 5800 athletes competed in 36 sports. Participants included national and world ranked athletes from Central America, the Caribbean, South America and beyond.
2016 Olympian and Emmanuel College swimmer Alex Sobers had a breakthrough meet, swimming 4 personal best times and setting 2 Barbados national records.
In the 400 LCM freestyle, Sobers set a new Barbados national record and 18 and Over age group record in a time of 3:55.50, earning him 7th in the A final. Sobers would keep his momentum going and secure himself another personal best time and age group and national record in the 200 LCM freestyle in a time of 1:51.27, placing 2nd in the B Final.
Another personal best swim for Sobers was in the 100 LCM freestyle where he finished 8th in the A final with a time of 50.51, setting a new 18 & Over age group record for Barbados. Just missing the Barbados national record of 50.40. Finally, Sobers placed 24th overall in the 50 LCM freestyle event in a personal best time of 23.60.
