Patrick Johnston joins Emmanuel College after serving the past three years as an assistant coach with the Palm Beach Atlantic University's Men's Lacrosse program in West Palm Beach, Florida. While at Palm Beach Atlantic, Johnston worked as a Defensive Coordinator of the Sailfish among other administrative and coaching duties. Since being named the Defensive Coordinator, the Sailfish made post-season play for the first time in school history, and the team lowered their goals against average from 13.7 per game to 10.2 per game against some of the nation's top competition nonetheless.
Prior to Palm Beach Atlantic University, Johnston led Cardinal Newman High School in West Palm Beach to its most successful seasons in the school's history. Johnston took over the three year old program that held a 19-25 overall record, and the Crusaders posted a 14-3 season in his first season as Head Coach. In his three years as Offensive Coordinator and Boy's Head Coach, the CNHS Crusaders earned an overall record of 36-15. The team also made the school's first three play-off appearances and the school's only top five ranking in the state under Johnston's direction. A number of Johnston's former Crusaders have also gone on to play at the NCAA Division I and II levels.
As a player, Patrick Johnston played prep lacrosse at Culver Military Academy and collegiate lacrosse at the University of Alabama. During his time at Alabama, Johnston captained the Crimson Tide while being twice named an SELC All-Conference Defenseman and an USLIA Academic All-American. He holds a B.S. in Education from the University of Alabama and an M.A. in English from the School of Letters program at Sewanee: The University of the South.
Patrick Johnston and his wife Cortney have one daughter Lydia (5 months old), and they will be arriving in February.
"I am honored to accept the position as the Director of Lacrosse Operations at Emmanuel College. The vision that President Michael Stewart and the administration holds for the future of Emmanuel College is exciting - - I am blessed to be a part of that vision. Emmanuel College is a dynamic community that develops the whole individual intellectually, physically, and spiritually which directly parallels my coaching philosophy. President Stewart and the administration's commitment to excellence in spirituality, academics, and athletics will undoubtedly help build a foundation for strong men's and women's lacrosse programs. The most important thing to me as a coach is to see the players grow as men and women. Each student-athlete's spiritual plan, their morals, their values, their academics, their work ethic - - all of these elements are part of who we are, what we will talk about, and what we will demand from each other. I cannot wait to join the Emmanuel family and to begin establishing a lacrosse program pillared on the development of Christian young men and women."
