Lions Baseball Ranks #8 in Conference Carolinas Preseason Poll

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The 2019 Conference Carolinas Baseball preseason poll has been released. North Greenville University will enter the season as the favorite to win the Conference Carolinas Baseball Championship, according to Conference Carolinas coaches.

 North Greenville University: The Crusaders enter the season ranked first after earning 90 points from Conference coaches, including nine first-place votes.

North Greenville went 46-10 overall last season and 21-3 in Conference Carolinas play. NGU would sweep the Conference Carolinas regular season and tournament championships, which earned the team a trip to the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship as the Southeast Regional host.

The Crusaders return five All-Conference Carolinas selections in Tucker BurgessJeffrey Chandler, Jr.Ethan GarnerUtah Jones and Jared Williams. Burgess, who was the 2018 Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the Year and an All-America pick, enters 2019 as a preseason All-America and will be the team's top returning pitcher.

The group will be led by the reigning Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year, Landon Powell, who should have the team eyeing a repeat sweep of the regular season and tournament championships.

2. University of Mount Olive: The Trojans enter the season 10 points behind North Greenville, earning 80 points and the last first-place votes from Conference coaches.

Mount Olive finished 2018 as the Conference Carolinas Baseball Championship runner-up and posted an overall record of 36-14 and 19-5 Conference mark.

2018 all-conference pick and 2019 preseason All-America selection Nate Estes is Mount Olive top returner.

3.  Belmont Abbey College: The Crusaders enter this season ranked third with 76 points.

Belmont Abbey ended last season 40-14 overall and 18-5 in Conference play, which landed the team an at-large bid to the Southeast Regional of the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship.

4. Erskine College: The Fleet collected 59 points from Conference coaches. Erskine finished last season 26-25 overall and 11-12 in league play.

5. Limestone College: The Saints narrowly sit in fifth-place after tallying 58 points from Conference coaches. Limestone finished last season by going 20-29 overall and 10-14 in Conference Carolinas play.

Back for the Saints is 2018 All-Conference Carolinas Chase Allen, who enters the season as a preseason All-America and will be the catalyst of the Limestone offense.

6. King University: The Tornado tallied 55 points and enter 2019 ranked sixth. King went 29-19 overall in 2018 while posting a 10-12 Conference mark.

7. Barton College: The Bulldogs check-in at seventh with 43 points from Conference coaches. Barton turned in a 12-36 overall record and 4-19 Conference Carolinas mark.

Troy Maslowksi, a 2018 all-conference selection, and reigning Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year Colby Warren will be the focal point of the Barton team in 2019.

8. Emmanuel College: The Lions make their preseason poll debut in eighth-place after collecting 28 points from Conference coaches. Emmanuel finished 24-26 overall and 9-14 in league play a season ago.

9. Chowan University: The Hawks debut in the preseason poll with 26 points and enter the season ranked ninth. Chowan finished 21-18-1 overall in 2018.

10. Southern Wesleyan University: The Warriors collected 25 points and close out the poll in 10th-place. Southern Wesleyan finished 17-32 overall and 3-21 in league play last season.
