Men's Basketball Opens Season at Lander Classic

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Lion's basketball team started off the season with two tough loses this weekend at the Lander Classic. The team fell to Lander 81-77 and Georgia College 64-62.

Friday, the Lions started the game against Lander with a dunk by Zach Lillie before the Bearcats took the lead with a three pointer, and never gave up the lead. Emmanuel trailed the Bearcats of Lander 27-40 at halftime. Though the Lions outscored the Bearcats the second half (50-41), they were never able to take the lead, taking the first loss of the season by just four points.

Michael Stanley, NAIA All-American, led the Lions with 21 points, including 11 of 17 free throws. Luke Miller recorded 17 points, and Steven Guinchard added 14 points, including four 3s. Zach Lillie and Michael Stanley each had six rebounds. Wyatt Sippy dished out four assists for his Emmanuel debut.

The Lions led the Bobcats of Georgia College 27-20 with seven minutes remaining in the first half, and the GCSU managed to fight back to take the lead 33-32 before halftime. The second half remained close with the Lions losing by a basket.

Michael Stanley put up 22 points with seven rebounds and four assists for the game Saturday. Patrick McCrary added 12 points to the offensive movement. Zach Lillie also added four assits.

The Lions host Bob Jones for their home opener on Tuesday at 7 PM.
