Mount Olive, NC – The Lions fell to the Trojans of Mount Olive, who are ranked number one in Conference Carolinas on Thursday evening.
Luke Miller started off the game with a three-pointer, and the Lions started the game with a 10-4 lead and a 33-23 lead at halftime.
The Lions allowed Mount Olive to make an 11-2 run to start the second half of the game to make it a 35-34 game. The Lions shut down the Trojans on the next three possessions, and extended their lead to 42-36.
The Trojans took the lead (43-42) for the first time in the game with 7:17 left in the game on a three-pointer.
Zach Vess responded with a dunk to tie the game up at 47-47 with 4:22 left on the clock. The Trojans took the lead with a pair of free throws, but with a tip-in from Patrick McCrary, the Lions were again tied with the Trojans with 3:04 remaining.
Michael Stanley made a three pointer with seven seconds left in the game to put the Lions within a point of the Trojans. The Trojans responded with a pair of free-throws to take the lead 59-56, with six seconds of play left.
The Lions were unable to close the gap and fell to the Trojans with the final score 56-59.
Michael Stanley led with 25 points and seven rebounds. Luke Miller and Patrick McCrary each added eight points. Miller had two steals. McCrary, Jeremy Burgess and Terrance Polk all recorded three assists for the game.
The Lions are home in the Shaw Athletic Center on Saturday, February 21, to take on the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan. Tip off is set for 4:00 PM.
This is the last home game of the regular season for the Lions, and they will be honoring the seniors.
