FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga.—Five Lion seniors were honored on Saturday evening for their last game in the Shaw Athletic Center, as the Lions were victorious over the Warriors of SWU.
The Lions started out the game on Saturday by not letting the Warriors get more than two baskets ahead of them, and tied the game up four times in the first six minutes of play. They took the lead 11-10 on a pair of Michael Stanley free throws before the Warriors of SWU responded with a jump shot, taking the lead 12-11. They continued to extend their lead and the Lions went into halftime down 33-45.
The Lions were finally able to close the gap and took the lead 53-52 with 12:53 left to play. The Warriors took offon a nine point run for a 61-55 lead. The Lions mad it a four-point game with a pair of free throws from Patrick McCrary.
With 7:47, the Lions tied the game up at 63-63 with a Michael Stanley layup. Again, the Warriors responded to take the lead 65-63. A Kurtis Robinson layup tied the game up again at 65-65 with 7:06 left on the clock. On a Michael Stanley free throw, the Lions took a 66-65 lead. The Lions outscored the Warriors 18-2 for the remainder of the game to come away with an 83-68 victory.
With this game, the Lions also collected points in the Lil Bronze Peach Competition with the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan University.
Michael Stanley led the Lions with 22 points and also brought down eight rebounds. Luke Miller recorded 12 points. Johan Pennerat and Patrick McCrary each had ten points. McCrary also recorded three blocks for the game. Jeremy Burgess dished out five assists. Zach Lillie and Kurtis Robinson had nine and eight points, respectively.
The Lions finish out their regular season of play on Tuesday at Erskine College. Tip off is set for 7:30 PM.
