Dahlonega, GA - The Emmanuel College Men's Basketball team hit the road for their season opener at the University of North Georgia for the Peach Belt / Conference Carolinas Conference Challenge presented by Steak-n-Shake. Coming back from a 21-11 season, everyone expected big things from the Lions, and once again they delivered. In a close match with Georgia College, the lions were defeated by only 4 points, but gave a little insight as to how they would perform going into the season. Against UNG, the Lions had a very impressive performance and were able to take down the Nighthawks.
When facing Georgia College, the Lions were up 19-11 before the Bobcats were able to fight back. Emmanuel only put up 27 points compared to the Bobcats' 36 in the first half. In the second half, Emmanuel picked up the pace and outscored Georgia College by 5, but were unable to take the win, falling short just 4 points. Freshman Austin Green had an impressive season opener with 23 points and 4 assists.
Against UNG, the Lions brought a lot of excitement to the court with some big dunks and a lot of heart. By half time, the Lions had a 20 point lead over the Nighthawks. The Lions rallied to take the victory 83-75. Kendrick Colvin had a dunk and brought 5 points to the Lions until an injury just 4 minutes into the game took him out. Kurtis Robinson led the Lions in scoring with 15 points while Elijah Robinson had 10 rebounds and 3 assists.
The Lions now 1-1 continue their season this Thursday against NCAA Division I opponent Georgia State. Tip off is set to start at 7:00 pm.
