Banner Elk, N.C - The Lions came into the game on Saturday evening with a record of 10-2 and conference 5-2. In the previous game the Lions conquered the Mount Olive University Trojans. The Lions were hoping to snap the Bob-cats winning streak as they took the court against the Lee Mcrae's Bob-cats on Saturday evening.
In the opening minutes, the Lions and the Bob-cats traded baskets with each team trying to gain an upper hand. The Lions began to build their lead by ultizing post plays from Kurtis Robinson with `16 points and 7 rebounds and Zach Lillie who had 15 points and 8 rebounds. As the first half wore on, the bob-cats were able to work the ball around for open opportuinities with back- to back three's from Lepreece Lynch 20 points. The Lions were able to find the answer and close out the half strong and took 43-35 into the break.
The Lions came out firing on all cylinders to start the second half as Zach Vess help create turn-overs to extend the team's lead. The Lions remained on top as they continued to come up with big shots to keep the lead and worked the score up to 57-44. The Bob-cats refused to quit as Austin Anderson help put his team back into the game. The Lions sensed the upset and began to extend their lead.
With just over 5 minutes to play, Emerson McClung drove to the lane on a layup to bring the bob-cats at a defensive stop. The Lions defense continued to remain strong and forced the Bob-cats into tough shots. After another defensive stand on a fast break to gain their largest lead, the final buzzer concluded the upset for the Bob-cats and the Lions won the the game 91-81.
The Emmanuel men's basketball team will continue action January 18 against Southern Wesleyan at the Jack and Jane Shaw Athletic center. Tip off is set at 7:30 p.m.
