Franklin Springs, Ga - It isn't easy to beat a team in your conference twice in a row and be ranked 8-3 in conference. Friday night just proved that the Lions are capable of anything, as they snuck away with the 59-78 win.
The pace was frantic early on in the game, which was just a sign of what was to come in the duration of 40 minutes. The Lions raced out to an early lead at the end of the first half after a near perfect first half from Senior Steve Guinchard, who had 18 points, 1 assist and 2 rebounds.
Lillie's offensive intensity was just what the Lions needed to keep the intensity high in the game, which eventually extended their largest lead of 18 points. Along with Lillie in the double figures Kurtis Robinson with 13 and Kendrick Colvin adding 11 points. Slowly the Crusaders tried to come back with the usage of Ray Chen who had 17 points. The intensity of the game wasn't heighten until Emerson McClung had a fast break dunk, that had the crowd going wild. At this point the Crusaders were at a defensive halt, the Lions finished the first half with a 42-30 lead at the break.
In the second half, the Lions offense exploded. The Crusaders got a taste of Kendrick Colvin's offensive post plays and a fast break dunk that kept the momentum high. The Crusaders couldn't seem to keep up with the Lions defense, as player Ronnie Stanley created several turnovers. As the Crusaders continued to trail behind, the Lions maintained the lead and heading into the final possession stealing a 59-78 win.
The Lions now have an overall record of 13-4 with a 8-3 conference record. The Emmanuel Lions will continue to utilize Steve Guinchard three's, along with Kendrick Colvin's defense against Pfeiffer in the Jack and Jane Shaw Athletic Center. Tip off is set 6:00 p.m.
