The Men's Varsity Basketball Team wins their first home game of the season

Franklin Springs, Ga- The Emmanuel College Men's Varsity Basketball team continued their season with a win over Carver College. This is the men's first home game since last season where they were the NCCAA National Champions. The Lions 73-65 win showed majority of points scored by three of the players including McClung, Collins, and Colvin. McClung came out scoring the most points with 23 total. He was followed by Collins who scored 14 and Colvin who scored 12.

The Lions came out to start the first half ready to play, but couldn't keep up with Carver to start with. Two minutes into the game, Zach Vess scored the first points of the game tying the score up 2-2. Colton Collins makes a 3-point jump shot to bring the Lions into the lead with the score to 14-13. The crowd gets hype for the Lions who are now leading and then to add to that excitement Kendrick Colvin comes in for a dunk. Carver had a tough time keeping up and fouled on the Lions multiple times. After multiple free throws for the Lions the first half ended with the Lions up by four points, 35-31.

After half-time the Lions came out and weren't anywhere close to being done playing the game. Within the first minute of the half, Kendrick Colvin made a 3-point shot bringing the score to 38-31. The Lions led Carver 40-33, but Carver soon picked up momentum. The game became close when Carver tied up with the Lions bringing the score 40-40. This same pattern continues as the Lions tie up again 50-50 and 57-57. The Lions finally have a breakthrough when Zach Vess comes through with a layup and Colton Collins makes a jump shot bringing the score up to 61-57. To add to the excitement, Zach Vess came in with a slam dunk with 2 minutes left in the game. With the score 65-57 the Lions are feeling a little comfortable, but they keep pushing on. Carver felt the pressure and, again, began fouling on every play. The free throws brought the score to 71-65. With no time left on the clock and the ball in Emerson McClungs hands, he runs down the court to make a slam dunk and end the game.

The Lions played an exciting game tonight and now have a record of 2-1. The Lions will be playing at home for their next game on Nov. 22nd, 2016 against Mount Olive. This will be their first conference game of the season.
