Men's Basketball in their First Conference Game

Franklin Springs, Ga- The Emmanuel College Men's Varsity Basketball Team played against Mount Olive tonight. This was the first conference game for the men's team. The Lions pulled out a victory, with the final score being 72-64. Most of the points were put up by Zach Vess and starter, Kendrick Colvin.

In the first half of the game, Mount Olive came ready to defend as they kept the Lions from scoring for the first four minutes of the game. Emerson McClung and Kendrick Colvin made the first points due to their free throws and Zach Vess put up his first points of the game which brought the score to 10-5. Although the Lions were trailing, it did not stop them. Derek Vandiver made his first 3-pointer trying to bring the Lions back in the lead, but it would take more than that with the score being 15-8. Emerson McClung makes his first 3-pointer and then Zach Lillie puts up his first two points of the game. The Lions are on fire when Zach Lillie dunks over Mount Olive. Two more three points are made and the Lions begin scoring back-to-back which is not allowing Mount Olive to score. The Lions jump up from being down 34-26 to leading the game 34-35, due to Kendrick Colvin's layup in the last second of the half.

The second half started out strong with Colton Collins' 3-pointer within the first 40 seconds of the game. The game stayed close as the Lions and Mount Olive stayed tied or within one point of each other. The Lions finally broke away when Zach Lillie dunked yet again! The Lions now leading by three, 41-44. Austin Greene made two free throws followed by Kendrick Colvin and Zach Vess. The Lions now had a 7-point lead. Mount Olive tried to come back, but Kendrick Colvin shut them down when he made his first dunk of the night. Zach Lillie made a 3-pointer which brought the Lions leading by 9. The Lions held their lead as they continually gained on Mount Olive. With 4 minutes left in the game, Zach Vess made his first dunk of the night which hyped up the Lions even more, who were now leading by 12. The game ended with two free throws made by Austin Greene. The Lions won the game against Mount Olive, 64-72.

The Men's Varsity Basketball Team pulled out the victory and now have a record of 3-1 and a conference record of 1-0. The Lions will have a break for Thanksgiving and their next game will be away against Texas A&M-Commerce  at Tarleton State. This game will be starting at 5:00 P.M.
