Misenheimer, N.C.- The Emmanuel Men's Basketball Team played against Pfeiffer University in a conference game. The Lions made a huge comeback in the first half, but were not able to pull out a win in tonight's game like they did in their first match up with Pfeiffer this past December. The final score of tonight's game was 111-94. There were many top scorers in tonight's game including Robinson, Collins, Greene, and Stanley. Although the Lions made a huge comeback and scoring was part of it; what stood out the most in tonight's game was the defense. The most rebounds tonight were grabbed by Ronnie Stanley.
The first half of the game began with a layup by Zach Lillie. He was the first Lion to put points up on the board. Right off the tip, Austin Greene was fouled and came to the line to shoot his free throws. Austin Greene has a FT% of 91 and with that, he would make both of his shots. The Lions showed strong defense and presented that through blocks and steals. The Falcons gained a considerable lead on the Lions and they were in need to catch up. Colton Collins broke the silence with a jump shot. Zach Vess was fouled twice and made two of his free throws. Austin Greene added six points to the board and then was fouled twice. He made all four of his free throws and now the score was 18-37. Kurtis Robinson added four points to the board. Derek Vandiver came off the bench and made his first 3-pointer of the game. Colton Collins would follow with his first 3-pointer of tonight's game. Colton Collins brought the Lions up to 32-42. Zach Vess added three points to the board which would include a free throw. Kurtis Robinson was there to recover an offensive rebound to add two points to the board. Ronnie Stanley entered back into the game and less than thirty seconds later would put up his first 3-pointer of the game. Two shots were missed by the Lions, but Zach Lillie jumped up to receive an offensive rebound. In grabbing the rebound, he jumped up and dunked over the Falcons to gain two points for the Lions. Zach Lillie turned around, stole the ball from the Falcons, and added another two points. Emerson McClung had blocked a huge shot from the Falcons. The first half ended with an offensive rebound by Ronnie Stanley. He would pass the ball to Kurtis Robinson, who would complete a layup. The first half ended with the score at 49-59.
The Lions were not ready to give up momentum and started out the second half strong. Ronnie Stanley came out on the court and put up two back-to-back 3-pointers. Derek Vandiver was next to add two points on the board. Ronnie Stanley recovered an offensive rebound and added two more points. Kurtis Robinson and Austin Greene worked well together. Austin Greene gained a defensive rebound allowing Kurtis Robinson to score two points. Then, Kurtis Robinson put up his first 3-pointer of the game with an assist by Austin Greene. Emerson McClung came around and scored his first points of the game, which was a 3-pointer. Ronnie Stanley gained a defensive rebound which led to him scoring his fourth 3-pointer. Colton Collins decided to show out with his next two 3-pointers of the game. Derek Vandiver followed with his second 3-pointer. The score was now 90-108 after all of that. Trevor Jain was fouled and made one of his free throws. Colton Collins was the last to score for the Lions with his fourth 3-pointer. The final score of the game was 94-111.
With the score being 7-30 in the first ten minutes of the first half, the Lions made a huge comeback. The Lions now hold an overall record of 10-7, with a conference record of 5-4. They will play at home on Saturday Jan. 21st. That game will begin at 4:00 P.M.
