Franklin Springs, GA- The Emmanuel Men's Basketball Team suffered a loss against the Barton College Bulldogs who won 85-74. Emerson McClung led the Lions in scoring with 17-points. Zach Vess led the team in rebounds with 8 total. The Lions had good line coverage scoring 24 out of 28, which is about 86%, but completed 50% of 3-pointers and 49% from the field.
Barton started out the first half leading in scoring 6-0. Zach Lillie scored the first four points for the Lions. Austin Greene stole the ball from Barton allowing Emerson McClung to make a layup. Zach Vess was the first to be fouled and completed one of his two free throws. Ronnie Stanley showed his defense when he stole the ball from the Bulldogs and Zach Vess completed a layup. The Lions were down 14-9 and Austin Greene closed that gap by two, with a layup. A huge block came from Emerson McClung to get things heated up. Kurtis Robinson came out with a jump shot. Derek Vandiver entered the game and completed the first 3-pointer. Austin Greene recovered an offensive rebound and Kurtis Robinson heated the tension with a dunk over Barton. Zach Vess stole the ball from Barton, which led to Zach Lillie being fouled. Zach Lillie made both of his free throws and was followed by two free throws by Zach Vess. Austin Greene was fouled next and made both of his free throws. Ronnie Stanley put up his first points of the game with back-to-back 3-pointers. Ronnie Stanley got the Lions up to 34-31. Austin Greene was fouled and tied the game up 36-36 with twenty-five seconds left on the clock. The half ended with a layup by Barton on the buzzer with the Lions now down by two, 38-36.
Kurtis Robinson started out the second half by grabbing his own rebound and passing Emerson McClung the ball for him to make his first 3-pointer of the game. Zach Vess stole the ball from Barton and Emerson McClung was fouled. He would make both of his free throws. The Lions seemed to consistently catch up to the Bulldogs, but could not pull forward to lead the game. Emerson McClung was fouled and made both of his free throws. Austin Greene made a layup and was followed by Kurtis Robinson with a jump shot. Emerson McClung came through with a huge block and Zach Lillie gained a defensive rebound. Zach Lillie charged down the court and dunked the ball on Barton. Zach Lillie made a layup and the Lions were now down by five points. Emerson McClung was fouled and made both of his free throws. Zach Lillie jumped up in the air to block a shot by Barton and the energy soared. The Lions were down 70-59 when Kurtis Robinson made a jump shot. Zach Vess made three free throws followed by a 3-pointer by Derek Vandiver. Ronnie Stanley was next with a 3-pointer. Emerson McClung and Austin Greene were fouled and made their free throws, which would end the game. The Lions fought hard and made many comebacks, but could not pull out the lead. The final score of the game was 85-74.
The Lions now hold an overall record of 11-8, with a conference record 6-5. They will be on the road for their next two games, but will play North Greenville on Saturday Jan. 28th. That game will begin at 7:30 P.M.
