Central, S.C.- The Emmanuel Men's Basketball Team took on Southern Wesleyan this afternoon. Coming into this game, SWU held a conference record of 3-14. The Lions added one more to loss to that record when they dominated the Warriors today. The Lions won with a final score 91-72. Emerson McClung and Zach Lillie led the team in scoring, while Kurtis Robinson snagged the most rebounds.
The Lions had a good outlook when stepping on the court today and that was shown through how they played. The first half began with a steal by Ronnie Stanley resulting in his first 3-pointer. Zach Lillie followed with a layup. Zach Lillie snagged his first defensive rebound and Ronnie Stanley sailed his second 3-pointer. The Lions were up 8-2 in the first three minutes of the game, but it didn't stop there. Kurtis Robinson and Zach Lillie cleared a couple jump shots. They were followed by a layup from Austin Greene, who turned right around to land his first 3-pointer. Lions were up 17-8, but SWU scored a few shots. Emerson McClung put up his first 3-pointer and was fouled. He came to the line and made both of his free throws. Kurtis Robinson assisted Zach Lillie with this first dunk of the game! Zach Lillie turned around to make a layup and the Lions were up 26-17. Either the Lion's defense slacked off or SWU's offense came out because they came back to tie the game 30-30. SWU took over the lead, but Emerson McClung was fouled. He made both of his shots to regain the lead for the Lions. Austin Greene and Kurtis Robinson were both fouled and cleared their shots. The Lions were up 38-36, but SWU tied the game up. Ronnie Stanley flew down the court and sank his fourth 3-pointer on the buzzer. The Lions were back in the lead 41-38, at the end of the first half.
Austin Greene was immediately fouled at the start of the second half. He made his free throws, followed by a jump shot from Kurtis Robinson. Ronnie Stanley stole the ball from the Warriors resulting in Emerson McClung getting fouled. He made both of his shots. Another steal came from Ronnie Stanley and this one would end with the second dunk of the night by Emerson McClung! Zach Lillie followed suit and dunked the ball over the warriors. This was the third dunk from the Lions, which were the only three of the game. Kurtis Robinson snagged an offensive rebound to put up two points. Zach Lillie made a layup and was fouled. He made his free throw shot. Colton Collins was fouled next and made his shots to take the lead over 60-49. Emerson McClung and Austin Greene were fouled and would only increase the Lions lead over the Warriors. Ronnie Stanley snagged a defensive rebound to put up his fifth 3-pointer. The Lions now held a 15-point lead, 69-54. Jack Fitzpatrick sank his first 3-pointer of the game followed by Emerson McClung's second 3-pointer. Colton Collins was next in line to clear a 3-pointer. Derek Vandiver would be the last Lion to sink a 3-pointer and would end the game. The Lions were victorious with a final score of 91-72.
The Lions now hold an overall record of 14-10, with a Carolina Conference record of 9-7. The Lions will play at home against Erskine on Wednesday Feb. 15th. That game will begin at 7:30 P.M.
