Seniors Vess, Lillie, and Stanley Step Off Their Home Court with a WIn

Franklin Springs, G.A.- The Emmanuel Men's Basketball Team took on the court against the Southern Wesleyan Warriors. The Lions defeated SWU in their second match up of the season. Freshman Derek Vandiver led the Lions in scoring with 20-points. Zach Lillie followed behind with 17-points. Tonight, was Senior Night for Zach Vess, Zach Lillie, and Ronnie Stanley. Zach Vess has been injured the past few games, but averaged 9 points per game with a completion rate of 61%. Zach Lillie is known for his impressive dunks and showed out tonight with four of them. Zach Lillie has averaged 11 points per game with a completion rate of 57% this season. Last but not least, Ronnie Stanley came through as a comeback player with 11 points per game with a completion of 40%.

The first half of the game started off quick for the Lions. Ronnie Stanley scored first for the Lions making his first 3-pointer of the game. Zach Lillie and Kurtis Robinson make a great pair with Zach Lillie scoring a 3-pointer with an assist by Kurtis Robinson. Kurtis Robinson stole the ball from the Warriors and set the ball up nicely for Zach Lillie to dunk over SWU. Zach Lillie stole the ball and Austin Greene made a layup. Zach Lillie was on fire tonight with two huge blocks against SWU to stop them from scoring. Austin Greene drove down the court to make a layup. Kurtis Robinson made his first 3-pointer of the game with an assist by Austin Greene. Derek Vandiver entered the game to complete his first 3-pointer set up by Austin Greene. Nick Scheimann made a layup with an assist by Zach Lillie. Derek Vandiver was good for his second 3-pointer of the game. Ronnie Stanley stole the ball from the Warriors and Derek Vandiver made his third 3-pointer. Derek Vandiver turned right around to complete his fourth and fifth 3-pointers of the game. Kurtis Robinson snagged an offensive rebound to put up two points. Kurtis Robinson drove down the court off a defensive rebound to set Zach Lillie up for his second dunk of the night! The first half will end with Derek Vandiver leading the Lions in scoring with 15-points. The Lions are leading the Warriors 25-36.

Kurtis Robinson scored the first two points for the second half. Austin Greene followed with a layup. Kurtis Robinson put up two more points and was fouled. He added an extra point to the board to bring the Lions up 30-43. Kurtis Robinson was fouled and made one shot. Austin Greene and Sam Turner were fouled next to add three points to the board. Sam Turner made a layup with an assist by Kurtis Robinson. Kurtis Robinson blocked a shot against SWU and Zach Lillie scored a layup. Ronnie Stanley snagged a quick offensive rebound and set Zach Lillie up for his third dunk of the game! Zach Lillie made a layup. Jack Fitzpatrick stole the ball from SWU and Derek Vandiver completed his sixth 3-pointer of the game. Zach Lillie went up for his fourth dunk of the game. Zach Lillie was fouled twice and put up three extra points. Derek Vandiver was fouled and completed both of his free throws. SWU started handing out fouls left and right. Next, was Kurtis Robinson and he made both of his free throws. Ronnie Stanley is good for his second 3-pointer of the game. With one minute left in the game the Lions are up 56-71. Zach Lillie was fouled and made his free throws. Zach Lillie and Ronnie Stanley both exited their last home game on a good note. The Lions defeated Southern Wesleyan 60-73.

The Lions now hold an overall record of 16-11, with a Carolina Conference record of 11-8. The Lions will play their last game of the regular season against Erskine on Friday Feb. 24th. That game will begin at 7:30 P.M.
