FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College men's basketball team won in its Conference Carolinas opener against Lees-McRae 91-88 on Saturday.
The Bobcats came out strong, doubling the Lions score five minutes into the game to take a 16-7 lead. Freshman Kyler Ingram would strike back with back to back layups to lessen the Bobcat lead. Behind Brandon Simpson and Kendrick Colvin's combined 31 points for the half, the Lions were able to dig themselves out of the deficit and finish the half with a 45-40 lead.
The Lions began to runaway in the second half, leading by as much as 15 points. Despite their lead, the Bobcats battled back with a solid 56% field goal percentage to get within just 3 points. Emmanuel was able to persevere until the end and finish the game with a 91-88 victory.
Senior Kendrick Colvin led the Lions with 31 points and 14 rebounds. Sophomore Brandon Simpson followed behind with 23 points and 5 rebounds. Colvin's third consecutive double-double allowed him to surpass 1000 career points.
Next up, the Lions will take on University of North Georgia on Tuesday, December 4th at 7:30pm in the Williamson Basketball Arena.
