Lions Lacrosse Falls to Pfeiffer University in Home-Opener

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - It was a foggy and rainy afternoon as the Emmanuel College Men's Lacrosse team played a home-opener against Pfeiffer University.

Pfeiffer traveled to Emmanuel on Feb. 10 from Misenheimer, N.C. and went back home with a 17-5 win over the Lions.

The first goal of the game was made by Pfeiffer's Luke Cox, with an assist from Jared Nelson, with 7:09 left in the first quarter. After winning their second faceoff of the game, the Lions had three shots by Justin Parker, Lance Olson and Alex Stull before calling a timeout with 4:21 left in the quarter.

When the clock started back, Stull, with an assist from Maurice Johnson tied the game 1-1 with the first goal for Emmanuel with 3:58 remaining. Pfeiffer scored again with 1:07 left in the quarter and ended the quarter leading 2-1.

The Lions started the second quarter off with an offside penalty against Parker, and penalties for pushing and slashing against Michael Balsamides. These led to another goal by Pfeiffer, bringing Pfeiffer to lead 3-1 with 14:47 remaining.

Seven goals were made during the second quarter, with two of them coming from Emmanuel's Kylon Collins and Parker.

The third quarter started off 8-3 with a faceoff win by Gavin White. Pfeiffer shutout the Lions and scored four more goals, bringing their lead up 12-3 at the beginning of the fourth quarter.

After two more goals from Pfeiffer, Emmanuel's Cam Free made a goal with 8:21 remaining. Pfeiffer made three more goals before Brian Marter made a goal during the last 30 seconds for the Lions.

The goal from Marter made the final score 17-5.

The Lions ended the game with 22 turnovers, 28 attempted shots and 36 ground balls. White and Scotty Arthur went 19-25 in faceoffs, with White having 11 out of the 19. Goalie Luke Harris also had 10 saves for the game.

Marter, Johnson, Collins, Free, Stull and Parker all came out of the game with one point each, giving the team a total of six points for the game.

The Lions will travel to Brevard, N.C. for their next game against Brevard College on Feb. 14 at 4 p.m.
