Men's Lacrosse Take #7 Spot in Conference Carolinas Preseason Poll

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The 2019 Conference Carolinas Men's Lacrosse preseason poll has been released. Belmont Abbey College enters the season as the favorite to win the Conference Carolinas Men's Lacrosse Championship, according to Conference Carolinas coaches.

1.
Belmont Abbey College: The Crusaders earned 65 points on four first-place votes from Conference coaches.

Belmont Abbey finished 2018 as the winner of the Conference Carolinas Men's Lacrosse Championship after going 14-4 overall and 5-1 in league play. The Crusaders would share the regular season crown with both Limestone and Mount Olive.

The Abbey returns reigning Conference Carolinas Player of the Year Liam Osborne and first team all-conference pick Anthony Cesario. The pair are two of the best returners in the league and the team is always competitive, so don't be surprised if the Crusaders collect back-to-back Conference titles.

Players to Watch:

  • *Anthony Cesario (Sr.) - Defense
  • Collin Grippo (Jr.) - Midfield
  • *Liam Osbourne (Sr.) - Attack

2. Limestone College: The Saints enter the season one point behind Belmont Abbey, earning 64 points and two first-place votes.

Limestone went 11-8 overall and 5-1 in league play last season, which earned them a share of the regular season crown with both Belmont Abbey and Mount Olive.

The Saints have five All-Conference Carolinas picks back in 2019, including one of the league's top FOGOs in Dakota Kirsh-Downs and LSMs in Jordan Stouros. The remaining trio of returners are Tyler PapaCody Solmosy and Clark Walter, which gives Limestone arguably the best midfield unit in the league.

With Limestone being the traditional power in Conference Carolinas, the team will no doubt be a tough matchup for anyone in the league.

Players to Watch:

  • *Tyler Papa (Jr.) - Attack
  • Larson Sundown (Jr.) - Attack
  • *Clark Walter (Jr.) - Midfield

Mount Olive ended last season 11-5 overall and 5-1 in Conference play, which earned them a share of the regular season title with both Belmont Abbey and Limestone.

The Trojans are the only other team to return five all-conference picks, with the group being made up of Thatcher ClarkBrady ElbinGunner ParsonAustin Peper and Jacob Williams.

Mount Olive's talent will make them a true contender for an outright Conference Carolinas title in 2019.
