Lions Soccer Earn NCCAA Region Awards

The Men's Soccer team see five players named to the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) South All-Region team. Martin Mitreski (SO), Nico Becker (SO), Sean Fitz Gerald (SO), Danny Cameron (FR), and Andrew Dunnett (FR).  

Martin Mitreski accumulated 12 points over the course of the year. The midfielder ended the season with 6 assists and 3 goals – one of which was a game winner.

Nico Becker, started in all 19 games this season. Becker contributing with two goals and one assist. Becker helped to anchor a defense that kept a total of eight clean sheets.

Sean Fitz Gerald, the Soccer Lion's top goal scorer with six goals, three of which were game winners!

Goalkeeper, Andrew Dunnett, had a record breaking first season between the sticks. Dunnett featured in 15 games this season, contributing with 59 saves and conceded only 20, leaving him with an impressive 75% save percentage and a mere average of 1.39 goals against per game.  

Danny Cameron, started in 19 games this season. Cameron leads Soccer Lion's in overall points, scoring 4 goals and contributing with 5 assists.

The Soccer Lions also received the Team Sportsmanship Award. This is a credit to the respect and integrity these young men carry themselves with through competition.

Finally, a special congratulations is in order for Head Coach Scott Borchers who was recognized as the NCCAA Region Coach of the Year. Borchers led his side into a record breaking year. In route to his 100th win as an Emmanuel College coach; The Soccer Lions recorded their most conference wins, with six,  and rallied his men into a 3rd placed finish in the much respected NCAA D2 Conference Carolina's.

All the members of Emmanuel College, and the athletic department are excited for the achievements and recognitions the Emmanuel Lions Soccer program received this season.
