FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College Men's Soccer team took on the University of South Carolina-Aiken for Wednesday nights match. After a previous loss to Barton College, the Lions were able to secure another victory.
The Lions had three shots in the first period, one went wide left while the other two was saved by Aiken's goal keeper. Both teams were unable to score going into the 2nd period.
After their half time break, Emmanuel returned to the field and had two more shots from Blair Springhall (#11) that were saved. It wasn't until 64:56 that Emmanuel caught a break. A foul on USC Aiken gave the Lions a penalty kick to which Channing Park (#22) scored the first goal for the Lions.
The game continued into the final 10 minutes, then USC Aiken tied up the score with a goal from Aaron Richard. Now with under 10 minutes left, the Lions had a critical need to score to regain the lead. After just a few more minutes, Martin Mitreski (#9) scored with a header, assisted by Jeremy Gwaltney (#2). This goal gave Emmanuel the lead once again and the Lions held off the Pacers to win the game 2-1.
Emmanuel will return to the field on Saturday Oct.21 to play conference opponent Mount Olive at home.
