BELMONT, N.C. - The Emmanuel College men's soccer team took on Belmont Abbey in the Conference Carolinas postseason opening round. Prior to this matchup, the Lions walked away with a 1-0 victory at home, giving the Crusaders their only conference loss of the season. This time, the Lions had a repeat performance, winning 1-0 once again and continuing their journey towards the Conference Carolinas Championship.
How it Happened:
Twelve minutes into the first half, Senior Blair Springhall blasted a shot into the center of the goal. The crusaders would fire sixteen more shots before the end of the match, but their efforts would come short as the Lions captured the 1-0 win.
Springhall totaled 3 shots, including 2 on goal to lead the offense. Senior goalkeeper Andy Dunnett tallied 2 saves.
With this win, the Lions will advance to the Conference Carolinas Semifinals where they will take on #3 Chowan University. Chowan earned their spot in the semifinals by defeating #6 Barton College 2-0. The match will be hosted by the highest remaining seed which will be determined after all quarterfinal games are played out tonight.
