Men’s Tri Team finishes 5th at UGA Invite

Sunday, April 03, 2016:: The Emmanuel College Men's Triathlon Team competed in the Early Bird Triathlon Collegiate Invitational at the UGA Ramsey Center in Athens, GA.

 

Our Men had a great day, commented Head Coach, Allen Gilchrest; "The men's team finished 5th overall in the male team standings, Senior Wyatt Nicholson finished 13th overall in the collegiate male division, and our Men & Women combining to finish 3rd overall in the combined team scores. What a blessing, to see our athletes shine for Christ on such a huge stage!"   

 

The Sprint distance Triathlon consisted of a 400 Meter Swim, 20K Bike, 5K Run. Six teams competedin the event. Georgia Tech, Clemson University, University of Georgia, University of Alabama, Auburn University, and Emmanuel College as the only non-Div. I school.

 

Senior Captain, Wyatt Nicholson lead the EC team with a 13th place finish overall in the collegiate male division with a time of 1:03.27. Matt Bonna (Fr.) finished 30th in 1:13.18, David Rabern (Jr.) finished 36th in 1:16.27, Hayden Pendergraft (Jr.) finished 38th in 1:18.21, Meshach McKnight (Sr.) finished 42nd in 1:22.38, Dwayne Foxworth (Fr.) finished 44th in 1:23.00, and Freshmen Nolan Bell finished 51st in 1:43.40.

 

This event was a Southeast Regional Conference qualifier for the 2016 Triathlon Collegiate National Championships being held at Clemson University later this month. All 7 male Lions qualified and will compete at the National Championships on Saturday, April 23rd, 2016. This event will consist of the Olympic distance triathlon (1.5K swim, 40K bike, 10K run).
