Each week the NCAA awards 1 swimmer in each Division (NCAA Div. I, II, III) with the honor of National Swimmer of the week, based on athlete and team results for that week. Pedro Illescas was selected this week for his stellar individual and relay performances.
The Emmanuel College Freshmen Finished 1st in all 4 of his events and set 2 school records, helping the men's team defeat Berry College in a dual meet (Sat Nov 5, 2016). Illescas events included the 100 fly, 1st, school record (48.88); 200 fly, 1st, school record (1:48.59); 400 med relay, 1st (3:27.68) his fly split (49.78); 400 free relay, 1st (3:07.69) his free split (46.66).
Illescas commented "It is a pleasure being named NCAA Div. II national swimmer of the week and Appalachian Conference swimmer of the week in my first college swim meet. I did not expect it and I am more motivated to do the right things, keep going to the highest level, and representing EC at the national level!"
This is the second time this semester an EC swimmer was selected as National Swimmer of the week. In September, distance swimmer, Stanislas Raczynski was selected after winning the inaugural College Swimming Open Water 5K National Championships and setting the men's national record in the process. GO LIONS!
