Men's Swimming Captures Title at 2017 ECAC Championships

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. - The Emmanuel College Men's Swim Team traveled to New York this past weekend to compete in the Eastern College Athletic Conference 2017 Winter Swimming and Diving Championships. 

The Men's team captured the Title with a meet total of 1,685 points. In second place was New Jersey Institute of Technology with 1,082 points, followed by Fairfield University with 847 points.

Emmanuel's Alex Sobers was named the Men's Swimmer of the Meet, while Head Coach Allen Gilchrest was named Men's Swimming coach of the Meet. Sobers took home four gold medals in individual swims over the three days, set two event records and also helped Emmanuel earn gold in the Men's 800 Freestyle Medley, 200 Freestyle Medley and 400 Yard Medley Relay.

Also for the men, Thiago Rosa captured a gold medal in in the Men's 200 Yard Backstroke (1:49.65). In the 200 Yard Butterfly Emmanuel's Pedro Illescas came in first with a time of 1:47.29 an event record, Mathieu Danjou (1:53.26) came in second and Santiago Aguilar followed up with third (1.53.96). The Lions concluded the day by winning the Men's 400 Yard Freestyle Relay by setting a new record with a time of 3:00.76.
