Lions fall to Tornado in Conference Match

Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel College Men's Tennis Team hosted the visiting King University Tornado for another conference Carolina match this season.

With the goal of starting the dual match ahead after doubles, the Lions started the event down on all courts but quickly started to turn things around for the best. After getting a break behind the freshmen duo Watteeuw/Canadas found their best tennis for a solid 8-4 win. In the meantime, King tied the dual by capturing the win on court #1. The match got tense with only one doubles remaining on court #2 but with the Lions leading with break at 7-5. The duo formed by Alcacer/Romero missed four opportunities to close the match and after a long game the Tornado broke the Lions putting the match at 7-6. Without dropping the level of confidence Emmanuel kept putting pressure on the visitors and quickly broke their serve to close the match with a beautiful crosscourt return from the freshman Juan Carlos Romero.

The match was now 2-1 in favor of the Lions at the start of singles play. Emmanuel Tennis was looking for at least 3 more wins to clinch the dual match. King grabbed the equalizer on court #3 and took lead by winning on court #1. EC was now railing at 3-2 with 4 courts left to be finished. Even though Emmanuel had the lead at 5-2 on both courts #4 and #5, King was strong enough to get a 3-set win on court #5 and a solid win on #4.  David Forehand let a 4-3 lead escape and was down on court #6. The Lions reduced the difference by the hands of the Freshman Jorge Canadas on court #2 by 6-3 5-7 10-3.

The Lions will continue the season now on the road this Thursday when they will be facing NCAA #4 Lander University. First serve is scheduled for 2PM!
