EC drops conference match to Belmont Abbey

Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel Men's Tennis Team hosted the visiting Belmont Abbey College today for another Conference Carolinas match.

The breezy morning started with very competitive doubles matches. The Crusaders looked to get ahead on the scoreboard with early breaks on every court and the Lions had to fight back to have a chance in the match today. The comeback kicked off on court #3 with the duo Canadas/Watteeuw with a solid win by 8-6. The Crusaders tied everything by grabbing a win on court #1, formed by Anglin/Forehand also by 8-6. All eyes were then focused on court #2 with both teams trying to get the last point of the day in doubles to have a lead before the start of singles play. After coming back from a break down and exchanging tight service games, the Lions doubles team, Alcacer/Romero, finally gave Emmanuel the second point of the day by 8-5.

With a 2-1 lead for the Lions at the start of the Singles Play, EC only needed 3 more wins to clinch the overall win, but the Crusaders showed more strength by earning 2 points courts #3 and #5. Everything was looking more difficult for the home team but the Freshman Juan Carlos Romero was able to come back from a set down and a 4-3 deficit on the third set for a win by 5-7 6-4 6-4. The overall score was now tied but Belmont Abbey got the three remaining points, with the Freshman Jorge Canadas coming extremely close to get a win on court #2, by dropping the match by 4-6 6-4 6-0.

The Lions will not have a long rest since they will host another conference match, the Pfeiffer University Falcons, tomorrow. First serve is scheduled for 1PM!
