The Emmanuel College Men's Tennis Team hosted Lees McRae College Bobcats today for a Conference Carolinas event.
The Lions looked extremely strong in doubles play and the Bobcats did not have an answer today with Emmanuel earning all three possible points. The win came from Canadas/Watteeuw on court #3 by a quick 8-2. The duo formed by Pereira/Anglin also earned a point for the Lions with an 8-2 win by effectively shooting balls down the line and quick approaches to the net. The last doubles point happened on court #2 with Romero/Alcacer, who had to battle a little longer and overcome some difficulties with unforced errors, but finally holding their last service game to win by 8-6.
The singles matches were marked by an even more focused Emmanuel team that was determined to earn a conference win today. First, David Forehand abused of a solid defense game to block and counter punch his opponent to cruise for a 6-1 6-1 win on court #5. The freshman Juan Carlos Romero earned a service break on each set to clinch his match by 6-3 6-4 on court #1. Next, Lucas Pereira had to work double than his teammates on court #3, since he had a slower start and dropped the first set before winning on a super tie-breaker. Pereira gave the Lions a sixth point with a win by 5-7 6-0 10-0. Jorge Canadas found little to no problems to defeat his opponent by 8-2 on court #2, followed by the Sophomore Enrique Alcacer on court #4, who abused of angles and drop shots to finish his opponent by 8-1.
This was the final home conference match for the Emmanuel Women's Tennis Team this season. Emmanuel will be back on the road this coming Wednesday to face a NCAA Regional opponent, Young Harris. First Serve is scheduled for 2PM!
