Despite extremely windy conditions Saturday morning the Lions had remarkable performances at the Second Annual Susan Rouse Invitational hosted by Southern Wesleyan University in Central, South Carolina.
Emmanuel represented very strongly in the distance and mid-distance events on Saturday. Kelvin started the day off breaking his own school record and personal best in the 5k and running a blistering pace for a solo effort, winning the 5k with a time of 14:47.87. Kelvin was followed by freshman teammate Urias Velasquez who ran 16:42. Kelvin returned later in the day for the 1500 meter run and won with a time of 4:06.11 and was followed by teammate Jose Diaz who ran 4:10.91, good enough for second overall. Freshman Madison Duggan ran a strong race in the 800 meter run, placing first with a time of 2:00.06.
Sophomore Dikerrio Ramsey blazed through the 100-meter dash faster than anyone in Emmanuel College history and became the first EC athlete to break eleven seconds. Dikerrio easily qualified for the NCCAA Championships with his time of 10.98 seconds. This is now his third event in which he's qualified.
The Lions will wrap up the regular season at Appalachian State University on April 30th and see if they can better their performances even more before the NCCAA Championships in Rome, Georgia on May 13th and 14th.
