Franklin Springs, GA - The men's volleyball team had a case of Deja Vu this past weekend when facing Conference Carolina foes King and Lees Mcrae for the second time this season. Although the matches were much different from their first time around, the outcome was exactly the same. Emmanuel defeated King and in a 5 set grudge match followed by a 4 set victory over Lees McRae.
In the match versus King the Lions took the first set victory in a close back and forth set 25-20. In the second set the lions were caught sleeping while King on the other hand dominated the net hitting at a .353 click. King took the second set 25-10. The third set was very similar to the first but saw King on the upper hand while the Lions tried to fight back after the tough second set. King was able to nudge out the Lions in the third, winning 25-10. The Lions would not be taken down that easily and would ferociously fight back in the forth set winning 25-17 forcing a fifth set. The fifth set was one of the best offensive sets for the Lions all season with 10 kills and 0 errors on 19 attempts hitting an amazing .684. Emmanuel would go on to with the 5th and final set 15-12.
Saturday against Lees-Mcrae the Lions were able to see similar success against the Bobcats winning in four sets. Emmanuel took set one 25-21 hitting a match high .448. The Lions were able to claw out a victory in a very close second set 26-24. Down 2-0 the Bobcats found success in the third set as the lions struggle to attack. Emmanuel hit -.042 in the forth leading to a 25-22 set victory for Lees-McRae. Emmanuel would not be outdone though making sure they finished the match in four 25-21. The Lions were led by Jordan Funk with 14 kills and only 3 errors and Steven Peruyero with 11 kills and 0 errors hitting an amazing .647.
Emmanuel followed up their two Conference victories with a non-conference win over Bluefield College on Monday afternoon. Although the gym was fairly empty with students having left for Spring Break, the Lions roared to their 3rd 3-0 victory of the season.
Emmanuel College moves to 7-9 on the season and their next match will be on March 15th when they travel to face another Conference Carolina opponent in Limestone.
