Men's Volleyball Drop 1-3 In Season Opener

Buena Vista, Virginia - The Emmanuel College Mens Volleyball program started out their 2017 campaign on the road this past weekend after the first two matches of the season we either canceled or rescheduled due to weather.

The Lions traveled to Buena Vista, Virginia Friday to play Southern Virginia University a very talented Div III school coached by two time Div I National Championship coach Tom Peterson.  In front of a capacity crowd the Lions struggled to get over first game jitters and a very young roster.

In a very close match the Lions jumped to an early lead against the Knights winning the first set 27-25 before the young Lions fell to the Knights of SVU 1-3.  Errors seemed to plaque the Lions from coming out on top in their first match of the 2017 season.  The Lions committed 62 total errors in the the four sets including 25 errors from the service line.

The Lions were led by freshman outside hitter Aleksa Lakic who tallied 10 kills with only 1 error hitting at a .409 click.  Senior libero Stephen Diaz led the team with 12 digs and sophomore setter Caleb Bonaventure lead with 26 assists.
