The Mens Volleyball team made a long trek north this past weekend to take on two MIVA foes in McKendree University (ranked 4th in last weeks Off the Block Div II mens volleyball poll) and Quincy University.
Although the Lions were missing leading attacker Aleksa Lakic due to injury earlier in the week they still fought valiantly against two very good teams.
In the first match on Friday evening against McKendree the Lions traded blows with the Bearcats for the first half of set one, but were unable to match the energy put forth by the Bearcats, despite matching them in hitting efficiency. The Lions came back strong in set two and were just slightly edged out at the end of the set 25-22. The Lions eventually fell to McKendree 3 sets to zero.
On Saturday the Lions battled against the Quincy University Hawks. Still licking their wounds from the night before the Lions were slow to start losing the first two sets 25-20. They were able to get things rolling in the third set with some well timed blocks and kills and take set three 25-21.
The Hawks used their 16-2 advantage in aces to help propel them past the Lions (3-1) even though Emmanuel out-hit the Hawks, .262 to .202. Quincy still managed more kills, 49-35, and led in points scored, 70-43.
The Lions will return to action on Wednesday as they travel to Conference Carolina opponent Limestone at 7pm.
