Gaffney, SC - The Lions suffered their first Conference loss at the hands Limestone on Wednesday night.
In a very back and forth match between the two teams it seemed to be a matter of finishing sets that gave the Saints a slight edge. The first set saw Limestone come out to a small lead at 11-7 before the Lions surged back with a barrage of kills from the pouncing EC Lions. Emmanuel was able to sideout for the remainder of the set and take a first set victory 25-21.
The second set saw much of the same back and forth play from both teams. Late in the match the score was tied 23-23 before an ace from the Saints and a ball handling error by Caleb Bonaventure ended the set 25-23 in favor of the Limestone.
The third and fourth saw plenty of back and forth as well but the Lions were unable to close out either match as the Limestone Saints edged out a 3-1 victory. The Lions were lead by both middles Ackeem West and Don Thompson with 15 and 12 kills respectively. Freshman middle Don Thompson's 12 kills with only one error lead the Lions in hitting efficiency with a .550 clip. Three Lions recorded double digit kills as outside hitter Gilberto Cervantes also tallied 10 kills for the match.
The Lions return to action as they host North Greenville University for their first home match of the season this Saturday at 2:00pm in the Shaw Athletic Center at Emmanuel College.
