Men's Volleyball Fall 2-3 In Close Match Against UMO

Emmanuel College Mens Volleyball drops another heartbreaking match at Mount Olive this past weekend.  The Lions fall at the hands of the Trojans 3-2.  

The Trojans opened the contest as the aggressors as they grabbed an early 11-6 lead in the first set.

UMO increased its lead to its largest point of the first set at 16-10 before Emmanuel was able to start chipping away at the Trojans' advantage until a late 5-2 by the Lions tied the set at 24.
Emmanuel finished off the set with a 3-1 run to capture the come-from-behind 27-25 set win.
In the second set, It was once again Mount Olive that took control early on as UMO jumped out to an 11-7 advantage. A 3-0 run was key for the Trojans as the run gave UMO a 15-11 lead. Emmanuel looked poised to spoil Mount Olive's lead late in the frame for the second-straight set, but the Trojans pulled away for the 25-22 set victory.
The Lions turned the tables on UMO as it was Emmanuel grabbing an early 7-3 lead.
Mount Olive attempted to claw back into the set and tied the score twice, but the Trojans were never able ahead in the Lions' roared to a 25-23 3rd set win.
Emmanuel took a slight lead to start the 4th set at  6-5, but UMO utilized an 8-3 run to move in front 13-9. Emmanuel got within a point at 14-13, but the Trojans promptly responded with a 3-0 run of their own to provide Mount Olive some cushion in route to its 25-20 set win.
In another 5 set match for the Lions, The Trojans again were able to edge out an early lead at 10-5 before Emmanuel roared back with a 3-0 spurt to trim Mount Olive's advantage to just two.
With the Lions threatening, UMO closed the door on the Lions as the Trojans captured the 15-12 set victory and the 3-2 match win.
The Lions played another exceptional match and are still looking for their first Conference win of the season.  Emmanuel was lead again by junior middle blocker Ackeem West with a match high 17 kills at a .444 clip.  West was also able to add 6 blocks and 2 digs to his outstanding performance.  Senior outside Gilberto Cervantes add 12 kills hitting .417 on the night with 2 aces and 8 digs.  Aleksa Lakic a freshman outside was also able to chip in 10 kills for the Lions with 2 aces and 7 digs.  Caleb Bonaventure lead the lions with 49 assists while senior libero Stephen Diaz lead all with 15 digs.
