Lions Drop Two Tough Conference Matches

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College Men's Volleyball team went 0-2 over the weekend after dropping two tough conference matches to Mount Olive and Barton.

On Friday night the Lions took on the Trojans of Mount Olive who they lost to in 3 sets earlier this season. Emmanuel started off with high intensity and stunned the Trojans in the first set. With twice as many kills as their opponent, the Lions took the first set 25-20. Unfortunately for Emmanuel, Mount Olive would regain their composure to go on and take the next three consecutive sets.

Statistically, the Lions led in kills and digs, but were outperformed in blocks and aces. Emmanuel also had 7 more attacking errors that played a big role in their defeat.

On Saturday, Emmanuel took on Barton for another conference match. The #1 conference ranked Bulldogs proved their elite ranking in the conference with a quick 3-0 sweep of the Lions.

While there didn't appear to be a huge mismatch on the court, the Bulldogs did outshine the Lions offensively with 41 kills compared to Emmanuel's 30.

Middles Ackeem West and Don Thompson had impressive hitting percentages of .818 and .643 respectively, but it wasn't enough to outscore the aggressive Bulldog offense.

Barton won the match with a final score of 25-19, 25-16, 25-20.

These losses bring the Lions conference record to 4-7.

Emmanuel will return to the court on Tuesday with another conference match against North Greenville University. The Lions lost 3-1 earlier this season.
