FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College men's volleyball team fell to conference opponent Limestone College on Wednesday night, 3-1.
The Saints took the first two sets relatively easily after the Lions posted poor hitting percentages. Set one saw the Lions zero out their hitting with 9 errors to their 9 kills. The Saints took the first set 25-13. The second set saw a little improvement, but the Lions were easily outscored 25-15.
Finally, in the third set, Emmanuel began firing back. The first run of the night for the Lions started with a kill from Junior Alejandro Robles. Senior Setter Demitrius Maloney followed up with an ace. Two more points would come for the Lions before the Saints would score again. Robles would score with an ace, then another duo of points would come from Junior Don Thompson with back to back heavy hits. The Lions cruised to a 25-19.
Despite the fourth set going to the Saints, Emmanuel put up a solid fight, starting with a huge comeback after facing a 24-21 deficit. Emmanuel put up 5 points to the Saints 1 to put themselves at match point, 26-25. The teams continued to exchange points in a fourth set thriller, bringing the set all the way into the thirties. Finally, facing a 32-33 deficit, one last attack error from the Lions would give Limestone the set and match, 34-32.
Don Thompson led all players with a season high 19 kills.
The Lions will continue action on Friday, January 25th with an away match against conference opponent Barton College at 7:00pm.
