Lady Lions Break Erskine’s Conference Streak

Due West, SC - The Lady Lions traveled to Erskine to face off in a double header event. So far this season Erskine had went 12-0 in the Conference but your Lady Lions showed up ready to take it all away.

            Top of the 2nd, Jorden Williams started it off hot when she singled to center field. After her Jessica Allen walked and Halle Cheek flied out to right field to bring Williams home. Kara Hembree then singled through the left side to bring in Allen; 2-0 Lions.

            Top of the 3rd, Kirsten Hill reached on error by the center fielder and took second and Crystal Busbee singled to right field to bring in Hill; 3-0 Lions. Bottom of the 3rd, Erskine came back to finally score their first run off a trick play running on the bases; 3-1 Lions.

            The Emmanuel bats would fall silent leaving it up to the phenomenal Lions defense to hold up. Bottom of the 6th, a home run for Erskine would give them another run 3-2 but that's all they could get. The Lions won and broke their streak 3 to 2.

Key Contributors Include: RBIs from Kara Hembree, Crystal Busbee, who also went 1-2 at the plate, and Halle Cheek who also went 1-2 at the plate.

Pitcher Erin Harden struck out 5 batters and pitched a phenomenal game!

 

            In game two Erskine came back for revenge Bottom of the 1st and scored one. They held the lady lions off until top of the 3rd, Kara Hembree walked and when Senior Kalen Callaway doubled down the right field line Hembree scored.

            Erskine came back firing to score three more off a couple hits and a few walks. They would go on to score in the next few innings and The Lady Lions, out of character, fell silent and couldn't come back. Final Score: 8-1 Erskine.

 

Key Contributors Include: Kalen Callaway with a double, RBI, and going 2-2 at the plate; Crystal Busbee went 1-2 at the plate; and Jessica Allen went 1-3 at the plate.

Freshman pitcher Madison Hopper threw a good game from the mound with 1 strike out in her 3 innings and pitched 31 strikes of the 65 she threw. Freshman third baseman and pitcher Kirsten Hill made her first collegiate appearance on the mound also striking out 1 batter in the inning she pitched and having 23 strikes of the 39 she pitched. Pitcher Hannah Perry closed the game very nicely and threw 17 strikes of her 36 pitches.
