Americus, GA – On February 18th, 2017, the Lady Lions softball team traveled to Georgia Southwestern University to compete in a double header against the Lady Hurricanes. Both teams remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when Allee Denney singled to centerfield and advanced to second on the throw, which advanced Joshlyn Martin to third, and ultimately scored Mikela Barlow. Joshlyn Martin then scored on a wild pitch, bringing the Hurricanes lead to 2-0. In the bottom of the fifth, the Hurricanes scored on a double to left center and a single through the right side, bringing their lead to 4-0 over the Lady Lions. The Lady Lions rallied back in the top of the sixth inning when Mary Baxter doubled to right field scoring Becky Collins and advancing Brianna Morgan to third base. The Lady Lions held the Hurricanes in the bottom of the sixth inning and continued rallying in the top of the seventh by capitalizing on some Georgia Southwestern errors. Halle Cheek reached first base on a hit by pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Crystal Busbee then reached first on an error by third base and Halle Cheek advanced to third. Halle Cheek then scored on a wild pitch bringing the score to 4-2. However, the rally stopped there, as the Lady Lions were unable catch up to the Hurricanes in the end resulting in a loss for the Lady Lions.
In the second game against Georgia Southwestern University, the Hurricanes put points on the board early in the bottom of the first inning making the score 3-0. The Lady Lions answered back in the top of the third inning when Halle Cheek reached third base on a hit to right field. Crystal Busbee then reached first on a fielder's choice, scoring Halle Cheek. Brianna Morgan then grounded out to first base, advancing Becky Collins to second, Meredith Reece to third and scoring Busbee, bringing the score to 3-2. The hurricanes would go on to score four more points throughout the game and the Lady Lions were unable to answer back resulting in a loss of 7-2.
The Lady Lions will be back in action on February 21st at Anderson University.
