Lady Lions Split Games at Bearcat Classic

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College Lady Lions Softball team traveled to Greenwood, S.C., to play back-to-back games on Friday.

The two games were a part of the annual Bearcat Classic held at Doug Spears Field at Lander University.

The Lady Lions fell to Lander 7-1 in the first game.

Isabelle Petty had the first hit for the Lady Lions in the top of the 3rd inning, but was followed by  Noelle Petty, who hit into a double play.

Lander's Casey Wooten put the first run on the board during the bottom of the third when she scored on a sacrifice fly by Chandler Casey.

Emmanuel's first score came from Morgan Franklin when she led off the top of the fifth inning with a homerun, making the score 3-1. Kristin Durden and Meredith Reece also got consecutive  hits in the inning but did not score.

Becky Collins and Alannah Long got the last two hits for the Lady Lions in the top of the 6th inning. Lander scored four more runs in the bottom of the sixth, bringing the score to 7-1.

The next game was a 2-0 win for the Lady Lions against Point University.

The first hit of the game came in the bottom of the 5th inning when Durden doubled. With two outs, Brianna Morgan, pinch hitting for Riley Clingerman, walked.

Clingerman then pinch ran for Morgan and scored along with Durden when Isabelle Petty doubled. The inning ended 2-0 after Nicole Petty popped up to third base.

Mary Baxter had the only other hit for the Lady Lions in the bottom of the 6th.

Pitcher Erin Harden only allowed one hit, in the top of the sixth inning, and four walks and had nine strikeouts.

The Lady Lions will face both teams again Saturday in Greenwood. Games start at 10 a.m. against Lander University, followed by a game against Point University at 2 p.m.
