Emmanuel Softball Ranks 7th in Conference Carolinas Preseason Poll

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The 2019 Conference Carolinas Softball preseason poll has been released. Limestone College and King University will enter the season as co-favorites to win the Conference Carolinas Softball Championship, according to Conference Carolinas coaches.

 Limestone College: The Saints earned 90 points from Conference coaches, including four first-place votes.

Limestone went 34-12 overall and 17-1 in league play last season, which led the team to a regular season Conference Carolinas title.

The Saints have one of the league's best players back in reigning Freshman of the Year and all-conference pick Ashley Parnell returning for her sophomore campaign. Another all-conference pick back for Limestone is Macie Park, which gives the Saints more than enough talent to collect another Conference championship.

t1. King University: The Tornado earned 90 points from Conference coaches, including four first-place votes.

King finished last season with a 36-22 overall record and 13-7 mark in Conference Carolinas play. The Tornado would punch a ticket to the NCAA Division II Softball Championship by capturing the 2018 Conference Carolinas Softball Championship crown.

The All-Conference Carolinas duo of Kay Brokering and Jenna Burnett will be the driving force behind the King offense and likely factor in the Tornado repeating as Conference champs.

3. Erskine College: The Fleet land in third-place with 88 points and two first-place votes from Conference coaches. Erskine went 16-2 in Conference play and 27-17 overall in 2018.

In a league full of great pitching, Erskine returns a pair of All-Conference Carolinas pitchers in Morgan Hendrix and Hannah HogueReagan Davis, an all-conference pick in 2018, will headline Fleet offense this season.

With Alleen Hawkins, the reigning Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year, at the helm, the Fleet will be in the hunt for a regular season title once again in 2019.

4. North Greenville University: The Crusaders posted 71 points and one first-place vote to enter the season ranked fourth. North Greenville finished last season 15-5 in league play and 32-15 overall.

Two All-Conference Carolinas picks are back in the fold for NGU, as Jaelin Griffin and Taylor Koon each return for their sophomore seasons.

5. Lees-McRae College: The Bobcats tallied 56 points and are fifth-place to open 2019. Lees-McRae finished last season by going 17-26 overall and 11-9 in Conference Carolinas play.

A trio of all-conference picks return for the Bobcats in Noel CassidyKara Cunningham and Caitlyn Ray, which makes them a true contender for a league title in 2019.

6.  University of Mount Olive: The Trojans collected 55 points from Conference coaches to rank sixth. The Trojans went 24-28 overall in 2018 and posted a 9-11 Conference mark.

2018 All-Conference Carolinas pick Eileen Barrera will highlight the 2019 edition of the Mount Olive Trojans.

7. Emmanuel College: The Lions earned 51 points and make their preseason poll debut in seventh-place. Emmanuel turned in a 24-27 overall record and 9-11 Conference Carolinas mark.

8. Southern Wesleyan University: The Warriors are in eighth with 32 points from Conference coaches. Southern Wesleyan finished 8-39 overall and 3-17 in league play a season ago.

Players to Watch:

  • Becca White (Jr.) - INF

 

9. Belmont Abbey College: The Crusaders posted 31 points from Conference coaches to enter the season ranked ninth. Belmont Abbey went 19-34 overall in 2018, which included a 9-11 league record.

Melissa Neyhouse, a 2018 all-conference selection, will headline the Crusaders in 2019.

10. Barton College: The Bulldogs are ranked 10th with 30 points. Barton went 5-15 in Conference Carolinas play and 23-29 overall in 2018.

2018 all-conference pick Sierra Hearp will be one of the catalysts behind Barton's success this season.

11. Converse College: The Valkyries round out the preseason poll in 11th with 11 points. Converse went 3-49 overall and 1-19 in Conference Carolinas play in 2018.
